The nervous system is comprised of two major parts, or subdivisions, the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord. The brain is the body's "control center". The CNS has various centers located within it. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A neurological examination is the assessment of sensory neuron and motor responses, especially reflexes, to determine whether the nervous system is impaired. This typically includes a physical examination and a review of the patient's medical history, but not deeper investigation such as neuroimaging.

This is my favorite book for examination of the nervous system. It's concise and well written. It practically takes you by the hand and guides you down the difficult path of examination of the complex and often confusing nervous system.

R.T. Ross is Cited by: 8. This small atlas is a guide to the examination of patients with lesions of the peripheral nerves and nerve roots. Both motor and sensory testing are illustrated by extremely clear colour hed in its original form in and now in its fifth edition, this is the standard photographic guide to the examination of patients with lesions of the peripheral Cited by:   The initial chapter describes the nerological history and exam.

Subsequent chapters review localization of disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system, cranial nerves, the reflexes, the sensory system, the autonomic nervous system, and the nervous system of infants and children. This little book is a must have for Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology or Neuromuscular trainees and even medical students.

It guides the reader through the neuromuscular examination of each testable muscle with clear straightforward pictures and explanations with no frills. This is still my go to reference after many years in practice/5(78). New York, Paul B. Description. Mass Action in the Nervous System: Examination of the Neurophysiological Basis of Adaptive Behavior through the EEG focuses on the neural mechanisms and the behavioral significance of the electroencephalogram, with emphasis on observations made on the mammalian olfactory system.

Organized into seven chapters, this book begins with a brief nonmathematical review of the concept of the neuron and the interrelations among neurons.

Describe some of the common pathologies of the nervous system. The Nervous System Functions of the Nervous System 1. Gathers information from both inside and outside the body - Sensory Function 2. Transmits information to the processing areas of the brain and spine 3. Processes the information in the brain and spine – Integration Function 4.

The collection of neurologic data begins when the patient is heard outside the office door. Listen to the cadence and sounds of the gait: the stamp of sensory ataxia; the short, festinating shuffle of the patient with parkinsonism; the alternating scuffling of a hemiparetic leg.

Observation continues when the patient enters the door. Posture, gait, and stature are noted as the patient walks to Cited by: 1. The autonomic nervous system consists of a somatic afferent pathway, a central nervous system integrating complex (brain and spinal cord), and two efferent limbs, the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous systems.

The neurological exam is a clinical assessment tool used to determine what specific parts of the CNS are affected by damage or disease.

It can be performed in a short time—sometimes as quickly as 5 minutes—to establish neurological function. In the emergency department, this rapid assessment can make the difference with respect to proper treatment and the extent of .The book's purpose is to provide the reader with a succinct presentation of the relevant anatomy of the PNS in the limbs and how it is directly applicable to day-to-day clinical scenarios.

It presents the reader with an easily accessible format to clinically applied PNS anatomy that is perfect for quick reference.Aids to the Examination of the Peripheral Nervous System and a great selection of related books, art and collectibles available now at
